Shortly after joining the staff at WMU he began teaching classes in Sales and in Marketing Strategy until the spring of 2017. He was an active member of the Food Marketing Industry Advisory Board at WMU for over 30 years. In addition to his role with the Food Marketing Program he was also on the Dean's Industry Council for the Haworth College of Business. Phil was the current Chairman of the Board for Alliance Foods in Coldwater where he served on their board for the past 14 years. He previously served on the Board of Directors of Plumbs supermarkets in Muskegon, MI

Condolence & Memory Journal

Phil and I worked together at Western Michigan University. His cube was right next to mine. We had so much fun together. I used to call him Dr. Phil.. He was always cheerful, delightful, energetic and hard-working. He was very dedicated to developing students and he was very knowledgeable about the food industry. He certainly lived life to its fullest. To his family and friends, I am truly sorry for your loss. I know you will miss him. I will miss him also.

To Phil's family,

Phil was a great mentor, trainer, coworker and team-mate. For more than 25 years we worked together while at Kellogg's and he was always at the ready to offer help or advice.

I know that my feelings are shared by everyone who came in contact with Phil. He will be missed and we will keep him and you in our prayers and thoughts.

We were so sorry to hear about Phil. He and I were friends and colleagues during our 30 plus years at the Kellogg Company. Phil was always available to discuss business opportunities with me. I valued his friendship very much.

Our deepest sympathy to Judy and the Straniero family.

I was the then Chairman of the Board of Alliance Foods who asked Phil to join our Board of Directors. It was the smartest thing I ever did. Phil's spirit, knowledge, energy, and creativity not only served the company well, it helped me out both personally and professionally. Thank you Phil. I will miss you.

I had the pleasure of being Phil's golf partner in the Monday night league for about eight years. We always had a great time-celebrating the good shots and supporting each other when we flubbed a shot. What a great guy. He will be sorely missed, but always remembered. Dave York
